Miss a stop sign?
You could face fines. Fines and points apply — and they add up in your driving record, which is reviewed during visa applications.
Park illegally?
Your car may be towed immediately — and the cost is yours to bear.
Unfamiliar with the rules?
Many foreign drivers face higher accident risks due to misunderstandings of Japan’s unique traffic system.
Even one "no" means it's time to consider a lesson — before confusion leads to trouble on the road.
Sometimes there are 2 similar road signs but mean very different things?
Merging too early or too late on expressways can cause confusion — and is one of the most common mistakes foreign drivers make.
Without clear signs, it's easy to assume you have the right-of-way — but in Japan, that’s not always true.
Attention:
Did you know that repeated minor traffic violations can affect your visa renewal or status of residence?
